The Art of Reuse 2016
Every year, the UNH Trash 2 Treasure program collects thousands of usable items left behind by students as they are moving out of their dorms and apartment and heading home after finals. In addition to the thousands of usable items, all sorts of other strange and broken items are left behind. In the spirit of one person’s trash being another person’s treasure, we want to encourage all local artists, tinkerers, welders, mechanics, seamsters, engineers and many more skilled individuals of all types to join us for a community dumpster dive during move-out and find their treasure amongst the piles of unwanted discards. Imagine making some shelving units out of old dresser drawers, or welding together bike parts to make an octopus statue, or fixing that old broken record player… so many possibilities!
You are welcome to participate in this dumpster diving adventure in one of two ways:
- Come hang out with us for the day, find some cool stuff, and share photos with us of what you make!
- If you would like to make an item and donate it to our “Art of Reuse” fundraiser in August, we would be super grateful and happy to feature your work and share your story. We will have a film crew joining us for the dumpster dive event, and would love to work with a handful of artists to document their process in creating an object over the summer to become a piece for the fundraiser in August.
