We recognize the intersection of climate change, excessive consumption, social inequity and environmental injustice. Through the Points of Intervention framework, we are declaring solidarity across movements and efforts that challenge the linear consumption economy – the massive global system that produces these inequities.
We recognize that the stakes continue to rise and that bold action is in high demand. We have a responsibility to the planet and people at large to fight for and build a more circular and just economy for the many and not just the few.
We recognize that nobody can do everything, but everybodyone can do something. We are all working together in this fight in an all-encompassing movement. Using the POI framework, we are finding small ways to create replicable community models and bring solutions to scale. We challenge the consumption economy by supporting both resistance and solutions. We are working on going “from” the systems of the past “to” the solutions of the future. Some examples are:
– from resisting pipelines to building a modernized clean energy grid
– from boycotting or banning disposable products to re-designing and distributing durable products
– from dismantling exploitation of farm land and workers to creating a just food economy
– from stopping the construction of new incinerators to implementing community re-use, recycling, and composting alternatives
We recognize that we need a new generation of leaders to pick up where we leave off. Therefore, we give our endorsement to PLAN’s Points of Intervention Tour. We, the undersigned, support the Post-Landfill Action Network’s efforts to engage and activate the next generation of leaders who will continue our collective fight for a just economy.
