As we approach the end of 2021, we wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on the year with you—our community of students, staff, PLumni, donors, partners and maybe even some new friends. We have had another amazing year of learning and collaborating to support the student-led Zero Waste Movement. This year, our team has worked closely with nearly 2,000 students and staff on college and university campuses across the country. We hosted the first-ever digital Students for Zero Waste Conference. We supported over 100 student-led campaigns for campuses to commit to Breaking Free From Plastic. We launched a zero waste certification tool that is changing the standard system for measuring waste on campus and released our ranking of the Top 10 Zero Waste Campuses based on this assessment. With our community of supporters, we’ve been able to challenge and disrupt disposability culture and the linear consumption economy. We are so proud of what we have been able to accomplish together! Thank you for being a part of this movement.
In the new year, we will remain true to our commitment to deepening existing relationships while offering direct support so that students can make lasting impacts on their campuses, in their communities, and in the fight for a more just and sustainable world. We are looking forward to sharing our new Strategic Plan in early 2022 and throwing a party for our 10-year anniversary in the fall! We hope you will join us in celebrating both of these benchmarks.
Whether you organized on your campus, supported a group you believe in, or reduced your consumption of single-use plastic—you are an important part of the movement. Thank you for what you have done to work toward zero waste this year! We hope you will continue to support PLAN in the new year. Here are some ways to stay involved:
- Become a monthly or a one time donor
- Sign your campus up for PLAN membership
- Apply or nominate someone to join our Board of Directors
- Help spread the word for our upcoming events
- Join our Newsletter to stay informed
- Follow us on Instagram or Facebook for updates
We want to leave you with a few words from members of our network to fuel our organizing work as we head into the new year. Remember, no one can do everything, but everyone must do something. And together, we can fix this broken system.
